ok so just got a new filter from ebay (ellie )for my essencia,soaked it went to screw it on to the housing but it wont tighten as though the threads are to small.
no ive not cross threaded it before you ask .ive even tried a bit of ptfe tape but no joy.so it constantly leaks and will not make a seal.
has anyone managed to make any changes or adapt the nylon threaded parts in any way.i am always uber careful with plastic/nylon threads anyway.
ive examined the threads closely and the look ok just will not nip up at all....

I assume we are talking the plastic carbon filter here, rather than the ceramic, as that fastens using a separate nut.

Question - sorry if this sounds stupid - is the orange-coloured O-ring in it's place? If it isn't, your filter will leak whatever. As I've never tried to assemble my Essencia without the O-ring, I don't know whether if you leave the ring out, it will fully tighten or not. If you see what I mean.

If the O-ring is there, then as ED put it, you may be screwed, unlike your filter. Lots of PTFE?

I'd be tempted to take the old filter, remove the spider (See separate thread) from this and the new one, dump the old carbon and transfer the contents of the new cartridge into the old (presumably snugly fitting) one.

ok so i have had a good look at this issue.
i am waiting on some bits along with stainless bolt a stainless low profile nut.
and some silicone food grade washers.
i plan to adapt the filter and the housing using these.
i will let you know how the conversion goes as and when i get the bits and get round to doing it.
if it works great if not ive fucked my essencia...

For some reason, unknown, as I am gentle with it, the thready bit where the Carbon filter screws down fractured on mine recently, and it wobbled off.
I cleaned, dried applied HA66 and a few small Stainess self tappers, it is currently working fine.
Bodging stuff is second nature to me.
I will cheerfully replace if needed.

Robert excuse my ignorance im guessing HA66 is some kind of adhesive.

Ok i think ive sorted it for good hopefully,no more risky crappy nylon threads on the carbon filter to wreck just stainless steel...
i will take some pictures and put a how to on here when im happy with its performance.its on test currently filtering some spirit.

HA66 is an automotive gasket sealant considered safe for use in aquariums.
Freely available on the bay.
That first caught my eye.
I bought some, extruded into 96% spirit and looked for changes.
Didn't see any, downloaded the Health and Safety PDF, read it, and decided that if it was safe for Guppies, then I would risk it.
It has become my go to sticky stuff, far safer than most 'food grade' silicones that contain 'fungicides'.

Packs', Ninja has a point.
Don't get hung up on the way of thinking of certain forums.
I will admit that it is subjective.
Sometimes I produce neutral spirit that tastes like water.
When I filter it, it is just like 45% ABV water, only more so.

I can answer that.
Filtering could be considered as a corrective treatment for a fault with a fermentation.
Tried Turbos, they need filtering.
Went through a series of natural washes. As the ferments got cleaner the requirement to filter waned. Culminating in the kale wash, which imo is clean enough so it doesn't need it.

Said basically as I've never tried ANY turbo, so may be lacking knowledge there, doubt it tho'.

If I wanted to invest money in my distilling operation there are things other then filtering I'd be looking at, even tho' the filter of choice does appear to be available off the shelf here.
I'm not hung up on any one way Robert, just that after some 17 years or so of practising this craft I'm happy with my lot.
Mr. Walker who posts here uses VS and filters and swears by his product. I respect that.

So the mod to the carbon filter and housing is working a treat .
have modded as follows .
first cut the nylon threaded part off the carbon filter (see photo) next drill a hole through the top to allow a stainless steel bolt to pass through the filter.i used an 8mm bit.
i then drilled the threaded nylon part the the carbon filter used to screw into in the top holding vessel again 8mm bit.so now the the nylon vessel that holds the spirit now has 2 holes in it one for the ceramic and one for the carbon filter (see photo) all you need now is a stainless steel bolt M8 with a low profile head and a low profile nut along with a stainless washer and a silicone (food grade) washer to seal the top vessel.the bolt had to be trimmed down (hacksaw) by a couple of threads so as to clear the bottom of the collection vessel ,if this is slightly too long the top holding vessel will not sit onto the top lip properly.the bolt needs to be inserted from the holding (top vessel) along with a silicon sealing washer before attaching the ceramic filter,then its a simple matter of popping on the stainless washer and the low profile nut onto the bottom of the carbon filter and just nip it up very sightly this will give a great seal on the orange oring only a tiny bit over finger tight (we dont want to break the holding vessel) job done..
The Bolt was M8 130mm long, the nut was half/thin hexagon stainless M8 (low pfofile),and the silicone washer and stainless washer all off ebay .Hope this helps some of you out .If you want the links just ask.
