Hi guys.
Does anyone know if cornmeal would be suitable to
Try and do a kind of uncle jesse's sour mash with?
If so any hints or tips regarding amounts in a 25ltr fermenter
Would be greatly appreciated.
Also would a handful of raisins suffice as nutrients?
I'm going to be trying Mauripan yeast for the first time too.
Thanks in advance

Be very careful with your water temps, that stuff is ground fine & I believe partially cooked so if you go with hot water to dissolve the sugar then you risk adding the cornmeal & turning it all into wallpaper paste.

It won't turn into paste that quickly. I've used cornmeal for this and for mashing with enzymes. It takes quite a bit of head to get it to gelatinize. The only problem you will find is separating it from the wash when you rack it off.

I would say that a handful of chopped or minced raisins, with the cornmeal, and sugar would suffice the yeasties.

Different taste. Use the corn meal. Or corn flakes, but that is yet another different taste.

OK, popcorn made me smile :) , would never have considered that as an option, if you try it please report back, I suspect the little buggers would float for a week or two...

A couple of years back I did some sweetcorn trials, the results should be posted in the recipe section here.
It tasted OK,but I don't recall any significant corn flavour coming through.

I perceive it as a sweetish, grainy taste. It does not taste like sweet corn, but I can discern between it and a barley based wash. Corn flakes wash tastes like, well, breakfast cereal. It is not bad but not bourbonish. With some JD chips and nuking it can be an interesting drink. I should make some again, it has been years.
