been given hops,crystal malt,pale malt
ok guys ive never done an all grain brew but ive been given
some ingrediants to make a brew
i got a carrier bag full of fuggles hops
about a kilo of crystal malt
about a kilo of pale malt
and a 250g jar of yeast (which is already mixed up with water)
anyone got a recipe for a ale bitter to use this stuff
i got these stuff from the local moorhouse brewery which they own and brew
the pendle witches brew
my intentions is to replicate witches brew by graham wheeler
using these ingrediants
A deceptively pale strong Bitter, dangerously potable. Sweet grain in the mouth; deep, dry finish with good hop character abd vanilla notes.
All the ingredients required to make the Moorhouse Pendle Witches recipe.
57g Fuggles Hops
280 g Crystal Malt
1.5kg Light dried malt extract
500g Wheat dried malt extract
Recipe adapted from original recipe in Grahams Wheelers Brew Your Own British Ale.
Requires 330g of sugar which is not included in the kit.
Recipe adapted with permission from original recipe in Grahams Wheelers Brew Your Own British Ale.
but these use malt extract and moorhouses dont use malt extract, they use the actual
malt
anyone know a method on what to do
as i said ive never done this type of brew

Put the yeast in the fridge or freezer while we work it out.

Righto. Back to the plan.
Are you only making 1 gallon?
'Cos there just isn't enough pale malt here.
...and an AG brew for 1 gallon will be hard work for 8 pints.

Anavrin. Cracking recipe...it's nice to see someone else's book covered in dribbles and scribblings.
Fuggles is a great multi purpose hop. I tend to be a bit heavy handed with it.

So im gonna need another 2130g of pale malt
and some torrified wheat (no worries on that)
But what is irish moss is that available at
lhbs ??
Will the malt need crushing or do they go in whole
and do they all go in to the boiler at the same time
or do i boil the hops first then add the malt

yes - standard stuff.

Buy it crushed

Mash Wheat and Malt 66c for 90mins.
Sparge and then boil for 90 mins.
Add the first hops after 15mins of boil.
Add irish moss 10 mins before END of boil.
Once boil done add remaining hops (steep for 30 mins)
Cool to 25c (quickly)
Whisk to get some air in it.
Pitch yest and Ferment.

Hi Magnu420
If you've not made a full mash beer before, I'd do a bit more research, it's a long days work and a lot to go wrong if you have no experience, what equipment do you have for mashing and sparging?
A good forum is http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk I used to use it a lot, lots of helpful advice, I even asked if anyone had ever built a reflux still a few years ago, the thread got shut down but I got some good PM's pointing me towards some stilling forums and recommending some good books :-)
Graham Wheeler himself is also a member on this forum
