Blimey, I bet you're right! They should definitely make a pot still head for it that switches with the column, I bet a fair few would buy it.

Aye Bill I would be interested in one of those SS ones asuming they would go on the T 500, not being as adapt at making things as some of our compatriots on the forum !

It would improve the usefulness of the T500 a lot, plus you could do a stripping run without melting it!

Brian

Basically a pot head that would fit the T 500 something like that shown in the link on Bills post.

Scroll down it a bit and you'll see they do em for SS and esencia boilers

See what you think ;)

Well guys
The Aussie mob will supply the T500 potheads for about £140 plus £50/60 airmail dependent on quantity assuming about 1.6 Aussie dollars to the £. Payment by bank transfer.
Let's see how Richards and Bill get on be nice to get them 'locally' ;)

First quick look at a Pot Head for the T500.

Looking at the various options and combinations that people offer around the world, I would choose the following.

All copper – because anyone in this forum could make it if they put their mind to it - or they know somebody who can.

500 mm high Column 42 mm dia.

A tee connection at the top of the Column

The vertical leg reduced to 22mm and left “Open” to be fitted with a bung, either silicon or cork, to act as a safety blow out feature. The bung could be plain or drilled to take a thermometer / probe.

The horizontal leg to taper down to 22mm and be fitted with a compression type joint which will allow the condenser to be rotated to give any slope

The Condenser to be a 27mm Jacket over the 22mm Product Line and be 600mm long with 15mm cooling water inlet and outlet pipes.

Looking at some installations in Australia such as this one, the connection to the T500 lid is by using a 40mm brass backing nut soldered to the base of the column – I am assuming that this nut is available in the UK, there are other options available but more expensive.

The materials for this work out at around £85 per pot. This could go up or down depending on the quantity, but this price is based making three.

The following is a sketch of what I would propose and a shopping list to go with it. If you want to make your own go for it, if you want help and advice ask for it. If you want one ready made then let me know.

Savings could be made by reducing the size of the condenser to 22mm over 15mm and some of the lengths shorter.
