Sweetness

Postby 0127frey » Sun Oct 15, 2017 2:49 am

I have began to realise that after tasting my bought Bourbon, and the Bourbon that i try too make, it seem to loose the sweetness,so i am considering adding,Honey,Maple Syrup or Golden Syrup (I'm not sure which yet)after distilling,i would be grateful on any opinion on this,if anyone has ever realised this,so tried it?.In the hope of getting a closer taste too the bought Bourbons.

100% agree.
Everything you buy is being sweetened by the manufactures.

Gently does it when adding.

Spot on. Maple is good, nice flavour and easy to
dissolve in your spirit. Honey and GS are thicker
and if you are not careful will just settle at
the bottom of the bottle. As Mash says
which ever you use a little at a time to taste.

It may be the more costly option, but for me, Maple syrup is the goto choice.

I came across it last week when i was following a Recipe for "Gin infused with Rosemary & Pomegranate" it said to add 2Tbs of Honey per bottle, but i imagine you could just add it to your taste, but it was a good starting point.

Hey, I will say up front that we are all different.
The recipe that you describe above reads awful to me.
If you try it please let us know if it is drinkable.

Well i have been drinking it over the weekend and really like it with Tonic,But thier are so many combinations of botanicals for making Gin,i may have just dropped on a combination the suits me,i have been experimenting with how long to leave the botanicals in the spirit

Thats it, its all personal taste. What one likes
another doesn't.

Then the problem comes with replication.
I thought I was nerdy with my note taking, but often fail to produce the same drink twice ;D
Good job that I don't own a brand :D
