Accidental/Incidental Garlic Vodka

Postby Easydrinker » Fri Jul 17, 2015 11:52 pm

The garlic crop here, this year suffered from Botrytis,(grey mould),like never before, and was obviously not going to store dry,and so a couple of weeks ago I started uprooting, scraping down to clean cloves, washing and dropping into jars.
I like garlic, grow a lot,and this years affected harvest is probably still in excess of 5 Kilos.
Instead of vinegar or oil,I topped the jars with neutral at 45%.
A few days ago I used garlic for cooking from one of the jars, and was left with clear liquid.
Well I had to taste it.
Hoo boy,not for the faint hearted!
Some of the jars with more solid than liquid may require cutting with more neutral to be acceptable, but it makes one hell of a winter warmer.
Which may be good as Scotland seems to be by-passing summer this year.

Robert.

Hi Robert,

I have your summer here in Vancouver and NO you can't have it back! ;D

This sounded horrible at first, but the more I think about it, the more I think that I need to try this.

Garlic vodka is a time honoured tradition in Russia and is a great way to fight off a winter cold. Personally, I prefer to roast the garlic first, with a little olive oil and a tiny pich of salt.
