Benoits Basic Bouncing Parrot

Postby Benoit » Wed Jun 15, 2016 7:52 pm

Finally getting round to finishing a multitude of half done projects, apologies for my absence of late but Mrs Benoit has decided she no longer wants the title so the internet has had to take a back seat.
Anyway, here is my basic parrot: a 54x15 reducer, a 54x22 reducer, a 22x15x15 tee, some 15mm pipe, some 22mm pipe, a teeny bit of 8mm and a 15mm end cap
Slapped together with some fairly sloppy soldering and voilà!

But Benoit, I hear you cry.....Why bouncing??
Well the answer is twofold, one because I dropped it hence the slightly odd angle at the tee and two because I added this:

I wound it round a 10mm drill bit then gave it a little tap with a hammer so it held its shape. After that I poked it into the end of the tee before securing with (lots of) solder & scrap wire to fill the dead leg of the tee up. The spring sits to about an inch above the height of the tee & cushions the hydrometer when you drop it down, cost about £15 guesstimating the cost of the pipe in there

Loving the bouncing parrot.
Sorry about Mrs Benoits choice.

'Tis hard to tell whether that was a "AND MOVING ON, SORT OF POST" or "I didn't bother to digest your post and so obviously don't really give a shit" sort of post.
Pretty tasteless and thoughtless IMHO.
But that is just MHO.

I will elaborate. Its a nice build and all though there is reference to sloppy soldering, I have done much worse. The bounce is a very good idea - I cringe every time I insert a hydrometer in a parrot, and this is a very neat solution.

Can I have a star now please teach :)

Been there, Benoit - commiserations. Nice parrot, though!

I seem to have got lucky this time around - we are celebrating a blissful 5 years of marriage today.

I once paid about £15 for a posh alcometer from love brewing, it's scale was from 70%-100%

About the second time I used it, it smashed while dropping it in my parrot :(
Great idea :)

I use the SD parrot with the bottom drain, it would be perfect if the alcometer didn't block the flow when draining, one of these would certainly kill two birds with one stone, protect the alcometer and stop it blocking the drain port.

I'm sure it wouldn't take long to sell the spare if you chose to!

Couldn't get the 54mm reducers so have had to compromise a bit, nearly ready just the outlet pipe and its hole to finish, set them at the correct height and solder me up Scotty...

Nope, 'cos this has been bumped, again, and you still don't realise what you did.

Nice job there Gadget Image it's great when you "diy" bits of kit yourself.

I've done most of my own...and I'm in the middle of two projects at the same time...all I have to do is find the SMEGGING time to finish them...Image

Working days are getting noticeably shorter.
Brewing and distilling evenings are getting longer.
I knew that there was a logic to doing more over the winter...
