I find Lidl and Aldi to be the only supermarkets happy for you to place one bag of sugar, bottle of beer etc on the belt, and then say "I have twelvety of those".
It speeds the checkout process, and a quick scan of the trolley confirms it.
It was the local Aldi manager that first asked me to do this.
I don't want to move stuff in and out of the trolley any more times than needed.
Trolley=shopping cart, not that these stores exist where shopping cart is the usual term.

Actually, the last lot I got from Aldi, was clearly labelled "Cane Sugar".......
T&L and Whitworths are both cane sugar. Silverspoon/British Sugar is beet........

Well...that's a surprise, I've always took it that our sugar (because of the EU) was beet, you live & learn.

Called into poundstretcher and its stil 49p for sugar cane Tate and Lyle
Hilarious as they are only allowed to sell 6 at a time so the young girl, bless her did 5 lots of 6 and I had to pay £4.94 each time, get the change, pay for the next one........

priceless !

Sorry to say that you are.
Certainly France process an awful lot of sugar beet, and if they do,you can bet it is Europe wide.
