De-ginification

Due to the recent arrival of sputnik I have been making more experimental gins.

Having learnt from them I would like to remove the flavours and return them to a neutral for another go.

Will a carbon filter do this, or is it asking a bit much?

I guess a column would too?

I have carbon filtered some of my failed experiments. My experience is that it won't return them to a true neutral, but it will get most of the way there. I save the result for new experiments but keep in mind that the flavour might be slightly skewed. I am not sure that a column would do any better as even at 96.5% you are still getting 3.5% of something else and some of those botanicals have staying power.

@ Mash: Redistill, a couple of times if necessary, but with lots of water in the boiler. A good amount of your problem will be left in the boiler.

Make sure your equipment is clean. Your run can and will pick up unwanted flavor. Your still is not a teapot.

I did wonder if diluting it to 20% and letting it s stand for a week before re distilling might help?

I'm thinking a couple of reflux runs, letting it down with RO or distilled water to the 20 or 30% area, with a good clean out of the still and column in between runs, then a final visit to a nice clean batch of carbon should do the trick.........
