The little sputty has another trick.

Fill with 2l 65%
Fit the sputnik
Fill with sliced apples
Dip some in cinnamon
Cling film to top. 2 layers. Replace lid.

Now then...
Plug the base (ONLY) in for 15 mins to get a warm. Keep it in the house.
Repeat this a couple of time over two weeks.

Then cut to 40%. And enjoy.

I'm seeing cling film and 65% alcohol. Not sure that's a great combination. Most cling film is PVC, loaded with plasticisers to make it stretchy and clingy. As your alcohol vapors extract the good stuff from the apples, I'm pretty sure they're going to be extracting the plasticisers from the cling film. I think the health hazards have been somewhat exaggerated, but I don't think I'd fancy a glass of apple and plasticiser vodka.

The better cling films are made of LDPE. It's generally regarded as safe with low strength alcohol, but I honestly have no idea how it holds up to exposure to vapors from higher strength booze over a period of some weeks. Personally, I'd err on the side of caution, but that's just me.

Good point and no need to risk it. I will make a small bung for the inlet to the coil.

Made this in the summer, by dangling fruit above alcohol in a jar.
I was impressed with the results of heating. The occasional warm replaces the effect the "sunshine on the windowsill" has.
