In your original question you posted "Oh, I also wanted to know if you, Ice, are a hot or cold water cutter? chill advocates hot water, aidanmac wants it ice cold."

The "ice cold" ref is what threw me because ice cold water would numb the taste buds and render then useless. What I advocated was the use of normal temp cold water with an eye-dropper and a teaspoon.

Due to work my wash as been sat in the kitchen looks like it's ready to drop into another bucket, will do that later and then throw some sugar on top of the lentils and see what happens.

Edit...just checked it and the hydro is down to just under 1.000, so that gives me a 10% wash...

Ok back on track..dropped the finished wash into a spare barrel to clear, it's now outside in the brew house.
Made up another 23 lts water with 5 kgs and banged it onto the lentils left in the first barrel, checked the SG...1.078...spot on. Now we wait to see what happens???, may the distilling gods smile on me when I have to strip 40 odd liters of wash through my airstill...

aidanmac: Och! I hear you. You may be surprised to find that the term "disruptive element" has occasionally been penned next to my name over the years. Don't faint! It's true!

But I've mellowed a lot since then... heh

This 2nd wash on top of the 1st wash lentils and yeast cake has got off to a really slow start...no big foaming head on it like the first one. I think I'll check it tonight and if it's the same, I'll throw a yeast starter into it.

*Note for the wordies: "plebibroma" is a newborn yidakiism set before you on an ancient plinth. Theobroma you may recognize from "theobroma cacao" - the scientific name for chocolate. It comes from combining the Greek roots theos (gods) and broma (food), hence chocolate is "Food of the Gods." Plebi is the plural of plebe; and if there is a food that is more representative of the common man than lentils, I know it not.
