Well it certainly looks well presented and if it was a bit cheaper I might even take a punt but it's too rich for me at that price.

I was wondering where I could get a boiler container like that though......

I have no idea how good a boiler there would make. I would be concerned if they are thin walled.

They look rather like the ones I was checking out over at Brouwland website.

Having just looked there, I can't see any detail of the thickness of the metal.

On the other hand, my T500 boiler isn't exactly what I'd call "thick walled" either, so I presume that as long as there's room for the vapour to escape and no chance of a pressure build up, then I don't really see why not......

I was thinking about fitting the element. The T500 has a thick base plate that the element is soldered on to. If you were wanting to cut a hole in the side, or bottom to fit an internal element you could have issues. Or not.

Thanks for the link mate I've sent him a couple of questions

I presume your own boiler has an exposed element Cap'tn ? So if it's ok to drill with a hole saw it could be a good option

Doh!......

Yes, of course. How bloody stupid of me to have overlooked that........

Given than the Brouwland ones appear to be the same though, I'd have thought with rolled and welded base seams, as long as the heater element was secured correctly, and not placed too far up from the bottom (say something like 1cm clearance from the bottom), it's unlikely to flex too much.

Hell maybe even getting a "tame" welder to tack a strengthening band round it might do the trick. I suppose it's one of those "test and try" things..... then check for leaks ::)

If he replies to your Q's with details like wall thickness etc, can you post the responses please ? I'm curious to find out as he may be that good option you already mentioned...... >:D

I've got a keg, I was looking at those for storage, but the price put me off.

My keg was cut with a plasma cutter and a 2-1/4" half socket mig welded on. The 50L keg is as big a boiler I'll ever need (for spirit runs al least).

Yes, I also have a keg, but haven't looked into heating (haven't looked into anything yet....still looking for where I can get other bits and pieces), but I hope to be able to get heating elements that won't mean I've got to cut the top off the keg as I wanted to use a ferrule and tri-clamp to connect a column, but equally knowing where to source a container like that could also be handy.....

I like the look of the large lid for easier cleaning that was my line of thought
Peated malt washes are bloody messy !

In fairness I could get a stainless keg for nowt but wondering how others who have gone this route have achied a larger lid or am I being too fussy

I really am wanting to upgrade to 50 litre soon

For boilers, get onto alibaba.com then look up home distilling, alcohol distilling, etc. You might find what your looking for.
