Thumper Setup

Here's a couple of pics of my Pot Still Thumper which may be of use to anyone considering adding one to a Pot or anyone curious but afraid to ask :D :D .

As you can see it's a converted 6 litre, stainless steel pressure cooker with two half inch stainless nipples welded into the lid.

Inside I installed a piece of shaped 1/2" copper pipe with loads of 2mm holes drilled in the underside of the curved pipe.

These holes allow the vapour from the main boiler disperse and condense below the liquid level in the Thumper where the alcohol is again evaporated before passing on to the Liebig product condenser

...and it all fits together like this...

This setup belies it's name as it is very quiet indeed. If I get very close, while it's running, I can just about hear the gentle fizzing sound of the tiny bubbles from the submerged pipe, over the sound of the cooling fan in my power controller.

I never run my Pot without it these days. ;)
