Cachaca - cane spirit
Re: Cachaca - cane spirit
There's one thing that's stood out for me in this journey so far Mash, even when I go a bit mad with the ingredients it's still cheaper than a litre of cheap stuff from the shop! Even at costs of £5-6 a litre I still feel like a bandit!
At those rates of return it's still less than £2 a litre, including yeast / nutrient etc. I wouldn't dare drink anything that cheap from a shop for fear of my throat & probably my eyesight!
It's crazy you have to make yours from tins John, I'm sure you've exhausted all avenues with it being your business & all but what a pain in the backside that must be!

Great Find YHB.
Committing to three tubs gets it down to £1.66 a kilo delivered, that is good.

Re: Cachaca - cane spirit
Reading through this thread, it got me thinking, ''iv'e got some
of this stuff'' lucky or not the kids missed it or they didn't
know what the hell it was. Maybe a 2ltr cider jug was too heavy
for them to carry, bottom line is, nearly a year forgotten in the
back of the cupboard ''still white'' It's one hell of a sip, i
remember making a reference that i wouldn't like to have it laying
around as it's such an easy drink to consume, i take it all back,
i tip my hat to you R/J it does age with grace, smooth as butter
and it deserves another brew.
cheers B_D

Re: Cachaca - cane spirit
Just done another spirit run of this going a little wider with the cuts.
Following RJ's advice the results seem to be consistent over the 200 litres (8 x 25 litre washes) I've done.
2x 23 litre washes double distilled gives me nearly 7.5 litres @ 40%.
I could have dug a little further more with the heads and tails at either end but I'm happy for now.

You are going to need remarkable self control or good stocks of something else to drink in order to leave this long enough to age ( I suspect you'll have about 2 litres @ 40% ) Good luck. Its tasty green but just gets better with oak and time. You can taste the oak smoothing out the bite after 6 weeks.

Say what now? You aren't reflooring a hunting lodge are you? For 2 litres you'd need a piece about the size of 1 inch of pencil.
Take a sharp knife and cut a bit off aunties wooden leg.
Here's the per litre amount I'm using

Re: Cachaca - cane spirit
Contentious post there MR FS.
I would use 10 to 15 times as much as you illustrated per litre, for a result in 10 weeks.
If I had the patience, and the supplies, then I may try with less.
One size does not always suit all.
Robert.

Contentious moi? I said "here's the amount I'm using"
I tried using more and it tasted like shite. I followed this suggested amount and it tasted gorgeous.
