Yeasties
I think that it was some of Capt.C's posts that lead to this; I have been playing with Yeasties.
A cheap aquarium air stone and pump + a few nutrients = FUN.
OK,maybe I need to get out more....!
I have been growing them up in solution just for the hell of it.
And also to have large numbers of the beasties to throw at brews for faster ferments.
Slant plates, petri dishes and agar is going a bit far for me;but to simply oxygenate a sample of wort, and watch the little begars grow is quite entertaining.
It also means that a teaspoon of dried yeast can grow to be a much larger volume, before pitching.
I have even proved to myself that you can re-use the yeast cake from a turbo,(don't know about the ones that advocate charcoal),should you so desire.
Time to put on my anorak and head for the door....
Robert.
