is it ok to store high abv spirit like 94% in a demijohn?

will the rubber stopper be ok with the vapours?

im thinking of making a few washes and throwing them through the t500 and not cutting it until i need it but i worried the rubber stopper will perish and taint the spirit..

or am i wrong?

al.

My humble opinion is no. use proper natural corks
I now tend to filter at maybe 50 % and store but it is twice as much volume
However it is safer and maybe less spirit loss though I suspect that would be minimal
My local HBC stocks plain proper corks but I know some have found obtaining these difficult

I use a cork too, although I have no scientific proof of anything it just seems that rubber wouldn't be a good option.

One consideration is that you are storing an extremely flammable liquid ..

Safest to store it at under 50%.

Rubber stoppers don't taint the spirit but they do get kind of stinky and make the neck of the jar smell...

Don't worry.

Well if you like the idea of a stopper that will reduce any possible evaporation etc, then why not use silicone bungs instead of rubber ones ?

I believe that they don't rot/perish in the same way that the natural rubber does.......

Indeed, its good for medical equipment like IV's, stilling gaskets and high quality sex toys. So if intravenous drugs, whisky, or butt plugs are your thing then everyone's a winner. ;D

I was in a Ska band called 'Rubber Butt Plug' in the 1980's.

We perished due to internal problems.

As Admiral Toad has said use cork. The high concentration of alcohol will tend to draw the sulphur compounds out of a rubber seal and ruin your hard work!
