Cooling water control
I've been using these valves as supplied by SD and widely available on eBay for cooling water control on my various configurations
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pneumatic-Pus ... 3ccb794a8f
They are much better than the needle valve as supplied with T500 kit as they offer much better control without such tiny movements on the control valve
They would make the T500 or any similar still much easier to run

Assuming it is the Flow Control Valve from that link AT.
Cheap as chips.

Re: Cooling water control
I'd like to point out that we are cheaper than the one from the link above, considering that 11.3 GBP are 15.55 EUR for the 12 mm hose version, and ours is 11.90 EUR excl. VAT (= 14.38 EUR incl. VAT).
Push Connect Throttle Check Valve

We have most of the other useful push connect stuff as well, have a look at our Push Connects & Hoses category. These items are really nice for building a proper cooling water supply.
BTW We now offer FREE Shipping too! All you need to do is reach the minimum order amount of 100 EUR (excl. VAT) for deliveries within the European Union and a free shipping voucher will be applied to your order on checkout automatically.

Re: Cooling water control
would this reduce the pressure or just give better control ? i think i would still need the PRV and the pressure here is crazy i get 12*c movement. So i think i would have to get the PRV then if i can control the pressure then i will get one. great idea though

Re: Cooling water control
I've got a couple of these on my setup, they work well, they're basically a needle valve for controlling the flow of water, but are also directional, you need to make sure they are fitted the correct way round, as I've found out recently reading on the SD Forum. If they are backwards they never completely close the flow off.
I've never used a PRV but basic flow/control principles dictate that the pressure will increase as you close them to reduce the flow, flow is inversely proportional to pressure, so when you have max flow you have minimum pressure and vice versa.
Not sure how that would work when a PRV is also used.

Yes, that's right, there is a small arrow on the side showing the flow direction, but unfortunately that symbol is only hard to see. We used to draw a larger arrow with a white marker to the side, but I guess that marker is already used up now...

Re: Cooling water control
SD there are more than that supplier on eBay I was just pointing out to the guys what I use
If you only just want a couple of things free shipping is often available anyway
As to the question of pressure contro these simply control flow (very well I may say) but unless you have very stable water pressure a PRV is an essential on liquid cooling controlled kit like a T500

Re: Cooling water control
i'm having this very problem as most T 500 users are i would think my problems are :
1, i rent so i can't add it to the existing plumbing
2, my system needs a PRV valve pressure here is massive
3, the water temp is very low here so to get a reasonable flow rate i have to run a little hotter. So maybe the Temp isn't so important in this case more the flow rate.
The good thing is i have an outside garden tap which i am going to make a small hose pipe from that jubilee clip it to copper pipe which would have the PRV in, then a washing machine fitting connecting to the 20mm Tap adaptor and then the needle valve to control flow rate. Once i get this all sorted i will post pic's may help someone else. At the moment i waiting for the PRV from ebay
Cheers

Re: Cooling water control
The problem with the T500, especially the new ones with only a temperature probe on the output of the cooling coil, is your setting the temp of the output water flow and not the temp at the top where the alcohol vapour is!
This top temp is in my opinion, the most important, this top of the column temp is what you should be trying to control, too high and you will pull tails into the product and if too low you will have a slow collection rate, I would ignor the cooling temp, using it only as a reference and adjust the water flow to get 1 litre per hour on a spirit run.
And try to get some sort of measurement of the vapour.

Re: Cooling water control
Agreed but also i think the water temp here being so cold. when i say flow rate i will try and find a common ground something that isn't too fast or very slow. Need the PRV to get s stable pressure.i was working on 500 ml per minute but will check it out many thanks

Re: Cooling water control
When I say 1 litre/hour I mean 1 litre of spirit from the output of the still, not the water flow, just in case I caused any confusion.
