What I Did Today
Re: What I Did Today
Now you're just showing off
and making me jealous
I'm confined to making sugar washes at the moment to build up a goodly stock of neutral.

Woke up in a pub or so it would seem
. I mistakenly put the fermenting bucket in the bedroom due to lack of space.

Stripped another 45L. 180 to go then will take a couple of days off.My new labels arrived yesterday and look great. Took a couple of bottles down to a local bar to get some opinions of the labels and sold the lot. That will keep the wife happy for a bit longer.

Re: What I Did Today
A thermometer doesn't really serve any purpose on a pot still but I'm sure there is a logic here that I'm just not picking up on
...it happens

Re: What I Did Today
and now lookin for some guides and thaton how to use it (when i get me boiler )
mate, IMHO
put a 50l ss keg boiler under it, make sure all fittings are secure and the water, via hose fittings, flows through the condensor effectively
then power it with a 3-ring LPG burner or lots of wattage through an in-boiler element/elements,
>run the strips (except perhaps during the foreshots) at maximim heat/flowrate possible, mindful of advice here about potential puking, and collect until either you cant be bothered anymore
or the spirit flowrate is significantly slower....just be careful of the water temp flowing through the condensor and, if in doubt, keep it running cool and quickly.>run your final/spirit run at no more than 2.5lph for the entire run; ie for all you wish to collect (in small increments/jars, of course)....wait until it is all cool and empty/rinse.
Consider ensuring adequate ventilation and perhaps a prop for the liebig...and
NB: if anything leaks, vapourises, etc...turn it all off, wait until cool/safe and fix it properly before recommencing.
that's about it really.
have fun, you'll love it I reckon.-

Re: What I Did Today
I've just started an ~50l OCW (Odin's Cornflake Wash) with a bit of Rye bread added.
Smells lovely.
I've recently moved away from TPW and neutral as I've been wanting to make something a bit more flavorful.

cleared a turbo wash and started a RoboRum I wanted to do 2 but need to get some more yeast nutrient so it will be done tomorrow
checked the Sg on the rum batch it was at 1.114 with a potential yield at 16%

Re: What I Did Today
Molasses fecks up hydrometer readings because it contains lots of unfermentable sugars and other compounds that will remain in the wash after fermentation has finished, no matter what you do, so I wouldn't depend on potential yield calculations for a this type of wash.
