Wash smelling eggy....
Me again-wash went on yesterday-turbo yeast, carbon, sugar and water. Today its fermenting but smells eggy.I have had this occasionally when fermenting wine and it normally goes after a couple of days-and the wine isnt any the worse for it. With wine I know its due to a bug getting in(sloppy cellarcraft)-is it the same with this(everything was sterelised) or does it always smell this way?
Will the resulting brew be ok?
Many thanks.

Wash smelling eggy....
Mine does this if i use water out of the hot tap (instant boiler not tank) for my wash. It subsides after a few days and has never affected the finished product after double stilling.

Wash smelling eggy....
Mine have never smelt \"eggy\" but the turbo yeasts do emit an odor that\'s not real good.
The Vodka Star is about the least smelly (in my opinion)
All you can do is run it and see what happens.

Wash smelling eggy....
I started last Easter and I confirm that the smell of the washes can be pretty pungent. IMO the sweetest smelling wash - and subsequent spirit - comes from the bakers yeast recipe. Next is the Vodka star. After that you get the washes that need carbon mixed in which all smell a lot more.
I also found that the spirit after one trip through the airstill was most smelly with the high strength carbon mixed in stuff - I now run it through twice when I use these washes - OK after one trip with Vodka Star, and best with the bakers yeast wash.
The carbon filtering makes a big difference to the smell of the finished spirit too
