Rhubarb Chutney

We have lots of Rhubarb this year, really, it has possibly topped 50Kg.
I don't do crumble and the like any more, I lost the sweet-tooth long ago.
Spoke with an elder lady in South London this morning (I have been away working, heading home)She had never heard of a savoury use for it.
Thought I had invented Rhubarb Chutney by the time that I stopped in the East Midlands to spend the night with a sister. She then produced recipe books with three different recipes for the stuff!
Duly photographed,(i felt a bit like a spy in a 60's movie),damn am I going to be busy when I get home tomorrow afternoon.
Is it just me that has totally missed what may be a great use for a neglected vegetable?
Any recipes welcome for consideration.

Robert.

Most chutneys start off by frying some onions and then adding a balance of fruit and then a spice element.

Rhubarb sounds grand. I am thinking, plums or dates would accompany it nicelywith a bit of Apple.

This is making me hungry already.

Please keep us updated with progress

+ 1...We have to keep an eye on our salt intake...so I think a little less for us also.

Tonight I tried the first of four chutney's that I intend trying before the Rhubarb is finished for this year.
This one very easy, designed to be eaten hot plastered to a pork chop.Very good, transformed the dish, according to my dinner guests.
Have bottled the remainder, will try cold with cheese and stuff.
When I have a favourite,I will share.

Rhubarb chutney is now on hold,as I was so busy, that I missed the last of it,and what is left in the ground is not worth doing anything with.
However,in an effort to reduce the stock of Strawberries from the freezer,I did manage a Strawberry and Rhubarb one;good with anything from a cheese sandwich to a curry.
Our apples are almost ready, and when we have some cookers,I will try more strawberry chutneys.
Something tart to set against the sweet.
Not too keen on Strawberries and cream, turns out they are delicious with vinegar and stuff added.
Nom nom.
