Just started the first of 4 Rum Wash's (the Lazy Way!)
First of all sterilise nothing, just rinse your bucket, jug and big ass mixing spoon.
Then soak 4 x 740gr jars of of Holland and Barret Meridian Mollasses in hot water to soften up the contents before pouring them into your bucket.
Fill the jars with boiling water to rinse out the last of the mollasses into the bucket.
Add 3kg of Sugar an a couple of kettles of boiling water, mix it up with your big ass spoon to disolve the sugar and top up to 26litres with cold water.
Don't bother measuring temp or SG.
Add half a tub of Allinsons bread yeast, cover and fit airlock.
Leave it somewhere not cold for a couple of weeks untill the bubbles stop.

Nice job! Molasses just ferments so easily, it's hard to go wrong.
Glad to see you have also got into lax brewing habits, we just don't need to waste time with the stringent cleaning ragimes that the beer guys have to maintain.
I would also recommend using 5l (20% of wash volume) of the hot dunder from the strip in the next wash.
Also when doing the spirit run, I like to add either some wash (about 10% of the boiler charge) or even some molasses to the boiler, you can really boost the flavour of th end product.

Now that is a new one on me Capt.
But agreeing with the no need to sterilise.
Robert.

Spot on I can't remember the last time I sterilised anything.
I rinse with water and store with a splash of alcohol. When I want them I just drain and use.
People forget that fermentation is a natural way of cleansing.
All that said I have been a bit manic lately about temps.... I think having a temp gun causes that.

Apart from being lazily made its now been lazily fermented, still in its bucket!!!
I'm gonna strip it this weekend, once I've blown the dust off my still :-)
Assuming it's still ok that is!!!

This is certainly a laid back approach!

This is the very same approach as myself...I started a 23 ltr GS wash with 5 ltr of dunder straight from the boiler, as I'd just finished a strip run.
Now that was two weeks back, when I checked it last weekend it had finished...but because we were gearing up for our holibobs I couldn't get to strip it....so it's sat in a cold fridge waiting for me.
We're away until the end of Aug, the lid is snapped on so it'll just have to wait.
No fuss...just chill..

Be seeing ya Anavrin.

So I started this on 28th April and today I dared open the lid of the fermenter, not for lack of wanting to, just not been able to do anything due to building work at home.
It was actually perfectly fine, no mould and a nice sweet molasses/rum smell

Happy Days

I'm just doing a bit of a semi-illegitimate child of this while bored and wanting to tidy the brew cupboard but not bored enough to go shopping.
I only have a 10 litre fermenter free, so ...
2 x holland and barrett mollasses
1 x kilo demerara sugar
1 x kilo granulated sugar
dunder from a cachaca strip run
water
allinsons yeast
edit : I might leave the granulated sugar out, for a day or two at least

Adding sugar later may keep the Yeast Monster at bay....

I've stripped 75 litres of it now, need to get another 2 washes on the go, so I can do a spirit run

Oh, I whince sometimes when the boys with bigger toys talk.
But my smaller toys seem to do the same thing, maybe a little slower..
'Tis all the same in the end,
Robert.

I feel your pain Robert. That's a good reason for me to upgrade to a 50 litre boiler I reckon.
