Started a new wash.

Wednesday I got a new 6 gallon wash going, but not as bonkers as my other one (EasyDrinker, which, after nearly two weeks, is still roaring away!)
I was going to do a straight sugar wash, but happened to spy a tin of Coopers Ginger Beer sitting around doing nothing, so in it went, with 5 kilos of sugar. I hydrated a sachet of high alcohol yeast (not turbo) and pitched that weds evening, but Thursday morning there was no signs of any activity! I waited til midday, and made another starter, but this time in a gallon DJ, and once it was going well, slowly added a couple of pints of the wash at a time until I had a gallon of nicely foaming starter, and pitched it in. That seems to have done the trick, 'cos it's taken off like a rocket!
So that's two washes I've got on the go, and as soon as my other two heaters arrive, I'll be making another two!!.... ;D ;D

If you just pitch a small sachet there will be a lag.

At first I read it as a tin of ginger beer and thought the preservatives were what stopped it in it's tracks, then I figured you mean a ginger beer homebrew kit?

Are you looking at me?
Your wash.
You put Ginger Beer in it.
From this side of the morning, some things seem strange. :)

Absolutely, Curmudgeon! Coopers Ginger Beer Extract, to make 40 pints. I thought Easydrinker had sussed it, now it seems he's unsussed it! Although, I'm not really sure at all! ::)

No, the heavy consumption of alcohol kept me befuddled :D
Makes a bit more sense now..

Just checked the SG and it's down to 998 and still fermenting nicely! Tastes gorgeous, too! :)

Also, just checked SG on this mash.....the bonkers one as was said....

3 litres of Apple and Raspberry juice
2 litres of Apple juice
2 litres of Cranberry juice
Large jar of Morrello cherries
! kilo of raisins
200grams of dried tamarind
3 kilos of sugar
made up to 6 gallons with hot water

and it's down to 0.880....I've never had anything go that low before!
The taste is pretty bland tho,(very dry, as you'd expect from the SG) despite all the crap I threw into it, or maybe BECAUSE of it! :P
Anyways, it's showing no signs of continued ferment, so, if the SG is the same tomorrow, it's gonna get run! ;D

Hey, It could be heaven, or at least it could be liquid heaven, Ambrosia, food of the gods.
It could be shite.
Loving the Gung-Ho approach. No Diss marks from me. the world needs more people to stray from the path.
Doesn't matter which path. I believe they all need a little tweaking and deviation.
Here endeth the sermon for today. ;D

Let us know :)

Well, I ran 3 gallons of it today and managed to coax one liter of 60% abv, one liter of 48% abv and about half a liter of 35% abv out of it. Threw away the first 200ml that came out, and kept the second 200ml and some weak tails, so quantity wise, not too bad.It doesn't taste too bad, although whatever taste there is, is very faint. I can't identify any of the ingredients that I put in it though! But at least it doesn't taste bad, which is something.
Going to run the remaining 3 odd gallons tomorrow, along with half a gallon of that corn mash that I have left over and see how that turns out.

I love reading about all this innovation and experimentation.

What you using to run it Dave? An airstill or something else? You planning to run it through a second time?
