I would have only used 5kg sugar there, but you should be on to a winner.

I often use VodkaStar, it’s very reliable and I often don’t have the time to experiment with other “non-turbo” recipes.
Like Robert said, I keep mine to 1kg of sugar per 5 litres of wash and currently have two 40 litre washes on the go with 8kg of sugar and one pack of VS in each.

I put my wash together at 0.25 kg per liter. At 90 liters per wash that is 22.5 kg per wash. Some would consider it on the high side but have never had a wash fail. I use Angel bread yeast. Available in the UK. I believe.

You are using the same wash as myself. I also live in Scotland and had some slow or stopped fermentation early in my career due to low temperature, but now use an adjustable aquarium heater. This works 100% and speeds the fermentation up.

Re: Started a new wash with vodka star
I'm a day or so in front of you, seperated mine today from the dead yeast as it had hit .985 and was so little fizzing I decided to call it done, it's gone out to the workshop to chill for a couple of days, I'm interested to see the difference between VS and turbo48, I'm happy with the turbo48 I ran first time round but have read on here the VS can make a pretty good wash so fingers crossed I can tell the difference!

I am not sure that I can, but that is subjective.
These days I don't use either but that is my story.
we all have one.

Re: Started a new wash with vodka star
I love the idea of making a wash from kale and bread yeast as this is reasonably natural in terms of ingredients and when my kale wash finishes in a couple of days maybe I will embrace it more but I also see the benefit of vodka star, does it really matter how the alcohol is produced as long as no flavour passes over to the spirit run? Or is that the point, the very few percent of water that carries over tastes better from a natural wash than vodka star or a turbo?

Re: Started a new wash with vodka star
Was hoping to have it ready to run yesterday but no rush .have some blackberries and pears ready for some tester jars to see how it comes out .not sure if should just pop the fruit in a jar or boil in a little apple juice and add the neutral to it .the vs wash tastes cleaner and more like a dry wine .

If you have pot still it's crap in crap out.
A good finished product starts day 1.
I properly fermented, natural & neutral spirit has always beaten any turbo in my taste tests.
Flavours cannot pass through if they are not there in the first place.
If you have a column, you have more latitude.
