Amounts of grain
Hi everyone I'm moving over from brewing beer to hopefully make my own whisky I'm looking at starting off making a few sugar washes to get used to temp control n that sort of stuff but I'm abit unsure on grains I've got some flaked maize malted barley and malted rye just wondering if anyone can point me the right direction as how much to use and if I need to cook the grains and mash them I usually drink buffalo trace and JD hoping to make my own version of these but make the flavours that I like stand out abit more hope this makes sense and would be greatful for any help
Cheers caine

Hi mate,
Yes,you are cooking and mashing,as per beer, minus the hops.
Myself I would aim for a wash of around 7-8% alcohol.
Some aim for higher with added sugar,I prefer fast, lower ABV.
Beware the gumminess of flaked maize in a wash!
Try the search box for recipes.
Happy stillin'
