I also posted this to HD. Would appreciate any comments as it might be that Swan is a UK brand.

I\'m looking at a small Swan tea urn. It seems ideal to convert to a small still. 2 gallons at a time is enough for me.
I\'d have to order it by post without seeing it so before I do I\'d appreciate any advice on what the \'unique lid venting system\' means and if this is going to be a problem or if the venting system can be modified. I\'d intend drilling a hole to allow me to mate a condenser via 15 or 22 mm copper pipe.
It\'s ebay item:- 270640131580

Like you say the lid maybe a problem, suppose it really depends on if you want to have a gamble with £30 and see what its like and if it cant be modified, you might be able to make a new lid with a stainless steel mixing bowl even if it means clamping it on and using flour paste to make it vapour tight.

Well the urn arrived today and I was indeed dissapointed at its size. Never mind I can always buy a bigger one and use this one for boiling water with after I have finished experimenting with it.
What did suprise me was the accuracy of the thermostat. It switches on and off well within one degree C so that part is looking good.
