Is it better to filter spirit or say put 4 liters in a large jar and adding a large amount of carbon to it and allowing to sit for a week or so? Id also shake or stir daily. Im think longer contact time would be better, as I\'m not in a big hurry.

Funnily enough I wondered exactly the same thing last week. I took twice as much carbon as I\'d use in a z-filter and added it to a demijohn of 35%. I was using a few jars of heads which were quite smelly just to give it a really good test. Shook it a few times a day. After a week it smelled pretty much the same.
I filtered the carbon out using coffee filter papers.
I then took the 35% and ran it through the z-filter about 5 times. By the end of that the 35% smelled significantly cleaner than leaving it with the carbon.
I\'m still going to run it through the T500 when I get a couple more jars of heads/tails to really clean it up :)

I was thinking about this heading into work this morning.
What happened was I\'d shake the jar, the carbon behave like the snow in a snowglobe but settle back to the bottom fairly quickly (10 mins or so) meaning you\'d have to shake it again to keep the cabron in contact with all but a small part of the liquid.
I was wondering about putting the jar on a rock tumbler (if I had one) just to keep the carbon moving..
