Thankyou

Postby Still Brewing » Thu Oct 15, 2015 1:44 pm

Last night I made up my first ever batch of Apple Pie using neutral from an Airstill. Left it in the fridge overnight to cool right down and have just tried a bit with a friend.

Made this up using 30g of brown sugar per 500ml of spirit, along with the juice reduction and cinnamon. My god its good.

I was getting a bit down hearted at times with the fermentation problems I was having but this has made me smile like a Cheshire Cat !!. I can already see room for improvement with my recipe, along with a multitude of different fruit recipes going through my head.

This is good considering I didn't use my Essencia filter to pass the neutral through beforehand. I haven't much stock of neutral yet, so I thought using it would be a waste. But when I do, its going to be even better.

Thanks guys for all the help and advice recently, it really has helped so, so much.

I am happy that you have had a good result to offset against some that weren't.
Keep plugging away, and you will enjoy the fruits of your labours.

Cheers chaps.

Woke up this morning after a 'few' apple pies. No headache, no dry mouth and no other feelings of 'I wish I hadn't drunk that much last night'.

To top it off, my wash is already down to sg 1030 after less than 3 days.

Life is good. ;D

I am not entirely sure that the lack of symptoms is a universal good. :D You are now without any safety brakes! Though if I drink enough, I do still feel wobbly the next day.

Make it now mate and leave it while, gives you time to let any sediment
settle.

Last night was an evening around a campfire in a woodland miles from anywhere with friends. Three small Mason jars of Apple Pie were opened, and three were emptied between us. Everybody mentioned how smooth it was compared to supermarket brands, ones that I can now call muck !!.

One left with a full Mason jar and a promise of 'plenty more where that came from'.

Just checked the latest wash and its now down to SG 1006, temperature adjusted. Thats been the quickest wash that I have ever brewed, but I won't be doing a jig until its complete.

Been out and stocked up with another 12 kilos of sugar today at 39p a kilo. Once my latest wash is complete I will crack on with at least 2 fermenters at a time so that I can get some decent stock together and actually use my Essencia filter.

I am kicking myself for buying sugar at the previous "best" prices, currently stocking up at 39p,it can't go any lower, can it?

I never thought sugar would go lower than a pound not long back. A friend mentioned yesterday one of the poundshops were selling it three bags for a pound, so thats even cheaper.

Its got to be a loss leader at that price and surely the shops can't keep it this low forever. But while it is, the cupboard will be filled each week with at least ten bags until it goes up.
