Hi just watching the programme moonshiners, which I'm sure you all know, and yes I know it's all be over dramatised etc but I have a question mainly out of interest as I don't have one, and apologises if this has been answered some time ago but when they use a potstill they have mentioned throwing the first lot as we do, but then there doesn't seem to be any real mention of heads, tails and hearts, they talk about them but it just shows them collecting pretty much everything till it gets a low proof then blend all together, water down to desired proof and bottle, is this true ?

I'm pretty sure you do make cuts however your distilling if you want a good product, just bored with no mashing or distilling to do at this time

You gotta remember of course that while moonshining has gone on forever it really only came to prominence in the bootlegging era of US prohibition and them boys were doing it for money not quality, nothing was thrown away.
