Christmas Ideas
So, this year, rather than giving a litre bottle of something to people for Christmas, I am giving several 250ml bottles so everybody has a nice little mix.
So far, I have some Sloe Gin in the making.
There is some neutral sitting on Almonds, Apricots and Cherries in the process of making some Amaretto.
I plan to make some Lemoncello and Apple Pie.
But, I want to try more things. I want a drink that screams Christmas. I was thinking of perhaps taking the Apple Pie recipe and adding some extra spices - such as some All Spice Berries, clove, nutmeg and ginger.
Has anybody made a drink that tastes like Christmas (but less Piney)?
Thanks,
Pie.

mince pies not rolls),Demerara Sugar and neutral,
Would the flavours come across, any other additions???

Re: Christmas Ideas
I have seen a few 'Christmas Pudding' recipes which include mixed fruit.
I did something similar a few years ago and was disappointed in the result.
Think I'll have a play with some different ideas - maybe soak some of the spices for a few weeks in the neutral and then use that for the Apple Pie?????
I would probably avoid using mince meat though as the suet may leave a fatty residue that you don't want in your drink! May be worth looking at the ingredients and using those separately.

Re: Christmas Ideas
+1 on not using suet, who needs an oily tipple?
On the only occasion that I made my own mincemeat for festive pies it was the dried fruit and Allspice,Cinnamon and Nutmeg that made it taste right.
I think the suet is for 'mouthfeel'
Robert.

Hmmmm. I've often found yeast seems to metabolize the greasiness.
I seldom take myself seriously....

I was having a go at a Black Spiced Rum and went large with the cassia bark - I ended up with an excellent Christmas rum!

I find Cassia to be a variable product, sometimes strong, sometimes weak.
I use quite a bit of this for my faux Southern Comfort.
Adapt and adjust.
That's what I do.
Robert.

Re: Christmas Ideas
I was hoping to resurrect this one as I'm looking for an Xmas idea. I'm thinking Spiced Rum or Gin. Was hoping JohnD came up with that recipe

Re: Christmas Ideas
Why not work around it, incorporate the suet, and make a funky mince meat?
What could be more Xmassy?
