I agree totally. I am hoping this wash will be a bit more than neutral... Let's see.

Hmm. Early signs are I am about to be disappointed. Running at the moment. First impressions... Neutral.
So no gain for the extra ingredients. Tasting later will confirm.

Are you getting no flavour at all mash?
I am really happy with the flavour I've got. It tastes almost wheaty.

I have let it open to air in a warm place today. There will be another taste test tonight.
After yesterday, I concluded that it was a very good neutral smoother [just] than Kale, but probably not worth the extra ingredients. Certainly no wheat taste whatsoever.
My recipe was....
25 litre
12 crushed weetabix
3 cups of crushed bran flakes
5kg sugar
100g yeast ---< Fermipan not mauripan yeast ?!?
Kale Juice ---< this might be the killer difference !
Freeze strip. ---< Hmm. Is this stripping the flavour

Air still.
How long did yours take to ferment ?

I put mine on on the 5th and it was finished on the 23rd but I had trouble with a slow start.
Mine is still on the chips at the minute.
One batch is at 45% and hoping to leave it at least 3 months
The other started at 60% which I've just cut back to 50% and next will be 40% just to see if
I can tell the difference once it's finished.
Once I've removed the jd chips should I leave the spirit to settle for any length of time or anything
Before drinking?

Sometimes you get a bit of sediment from the chips depending on if you washed them off before they went in your jar or if you've been shaking it so it might be worth filtering it when it comes off the chips, just to catch the bits.

Use an anodised fuel filter containing a ss scrubber inline on your syphon hose. Brilliant for catching crap.

The fuel filter is a fantastic idea. Pure genius.
what i meant though was does the spirit condition if left for a while after being taken off the oak.
a little like when making beer.

These is the sort of thing.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SILVER-8mm-ME ... SweW5U~Y59Use the sintered bronze for fine stuff and then boil clean. OR (best)replace with a small bit of SS scrubby. Great for dry hopping beer too.

I'm getting ready to start a 32 gallon batch of Kellogg's Corn Flakes wash. 500 grams of corn flakes cooked in hot water, 14 pounds of sugar, and 1 teaspoon citric acid for each 8 gallon bucket. It should come out great after 2 distillations from everything I've read.

I got distracted with something else on Saturday, but I finally got around to starting this yesterday. The buckets are bubbling happily.
I plan on double distilling this with the pot still. I'm hoping for a corn whiskey flavor with less effort than doing an all grain batch with corn. I'll actually do an all grain corn batch at some point this year.

In my experience M, you will want more corn flakes. I'm going to make an assumption from your scales that you're in the US? 500g in 8 US gallons is 30 litres give or take, I used 1.5kg in 25 litres and was still thinking it could have had a bit more of a corn flavour. I did use the cheapest corn flakes available though so different brands / quality might get different results. I'm guessing not all corn flakes are created equally!

Hi Benoit. I currently have 2x 1kg boxes of cornflakes. Did yours taste of corn or just cereal?

It was definitely a corn taste, not like JD it had a more kind of toasted flavour to it. I did a sugar puff wash not so long ago & they're very different so It's not just a general cereal flavour, I can't really put it in to words other than it tastes like corn flakes...but in a good way!
