first 190 proof run

:) I am doing a stripping run of some mash that I let sit and clear for three weeks, just pulled a jar of heads and hydro says it is 195 to 200. I checked it again with a different hydro same reading, wow I am running this one at 55c. A bit slower than usual.

It is looking as though things are going well for you, but something to consider.

The hydrometers you have will be probably be calibrated to be accurate at 20degC. I would imagine that the distillate coming off the still is considerably hotter than that temperature.

Check the piece of paper that the hydrometer came wrapped up in and it will give you a correction factor to apply making the actual strength of the spirits a little less than the figures you quote.

Or there again. it may be easier to wait until everything is at room temperature, then the hydrometers will be a little more reliable.

I will recheck tomorrow after it sits overnight. I forgot the temperature variance.:-)
