Could it be oil from the peel????.

Yep, oil from the peel is the prime suspect here.
I poured all the cloudy stuff together and noticed little "Oil slicks".
I mopped them up with tissue.
Nearly finished re-running, nice and clear, smells so Orangey!
I suspect that the natural oil was distilling out somewhere between the alcohol being at 60% and 20%, forming an emulsion which given time may have separated naturally.
Whatever, I am a happy man, I expect around 5-6 litres of a finished orange liquer to rival Cointreau or Triple sec from my 2+ litres of macerated and filtered orange spirit and a couple more from the 2nd time macerated and distilled; when combined, sweetened and tweeked.
And it will have a natural orange tint.
Should last a little while.

Not really a recipe, but that was about a Kilo of Satsuma skins, and two months total maceration.

Put a weetabix/ cornflake wash on today 3x cups of weetabix 3x cornflakes (crushed )90g of fast active yeast(Morrisons ) x6 lb sugar topped to 28l pitched at 30 c is now sitting in the fermenting cupboard around 26c

hopefully I've got this first time recipe about right and will a bit quicker than the tpw wash that on last attempt the tpw took 20 days from start to Finnish including clearing time @a steady 25c fingers crossed ,smells fantastic it's the new air freshener in the house at the moment ,who needs plug ins

I have always objected to the smelly plug-ins that my sisters favour; they make me want to vomit, they are so fake smelling.
Good honest ferments sound much better.

Strip for vodka or are you after something more akin to whisky/whiskey?

Finally after much stuffing around, did the spirit run on the product of some stripping runs from a few months back that were in turn the product of a couple of washes from some months previous. (Being 'tired means time is of little object.)

Rum was the result.
Has shaped up rather well too. Food grade molasses with the product of a flaked oats enzymatic mash, fermented with a kale extract for nutrition.
No sugar, of the over-the-counter-shop variety was used, which was the idea from the outset.
Next time tho' I'll use malted oats rather then go enzyme.

So that leads me to a question.....
Most here, I think, do rum from molasses and sugar - which is what I have done in the past.
Is there any knowledge out there on how much fermentable equivalent might be extracted from mashing oats?
Like what quantity of oats would have to be mashed to replace, say 1 kg, of sugar

Hi packapoo I've got the ss whiskey profile kit had it for a while so may play around with it n try and get a similarity to one of my favourite liqueurs drambuie (here's hoping) and maybe some apple cinnamon brandy that I like a lot ,at the moment I only have a reflux so it will be stripped so I can see how good it will be as a neutral also ,it's my first go at this recipe,in the future I'm looking to purchase an alembic condenser just to have the best of both

Hey Robert ,same here fake like them smelly candles you get ,am not keen on them ,I have my fermentation cupboard under the stairs near the front door (in The lobby ) so if visitors appear they either say wat a braw smell that is or it smells like a fukn brewery in here ,my reply that's cos it fukn is hehe ,love brewing >:D

Good luck with the SS profile kit!
I have owned one for years and now given up on it.
It was a nice idea, that didn't work for me with neutral.
With the pot still I can make spirit that doesn't require it.

Today I ran a spirit run, the first of the year!
I had such a stock by xmas that I slowed down, well, stopped actually.
Time to replenish the supplies.

If time allowed, then I am sure my efforts would leave the rest of you smelling dust.
As it is, right now, time seems to be premium, and the wash and stilling business are coming back into the cycle of stuff that I would expect.
A little above consumption, a little less than I would like!
