Just going to use Alcotec 48 for the first time and I notice on the packet it says do not use an air lock. Anyone tell me why and do you just leave the lid on the fermentor with the hole for the air lock exposed. While I am at it can you use wine finings in a spirit wash. Cheers Short

The alcotec can be quite a vigorous fermentation and it has been suggested that it may produce enough CO2 rapidly enough to eject the contents of the airlock or just propel the airlock skywards.
I always airlock mine in the hope that it would but it never has :(

Only ever had the airlock launched on anything and that was making alcoholic ginger beer, didn\'t have any correct yeast at the time so used dried bread yeast and boy did it fire lol.

I have noticed that alcotec is quite vigorous but never had it fire an airlock - yet!
