New pot still

I've just completed my new pot still for the T500/Grainfather. The old one was upright and tended to cause a tipping motion when removing, this one is balanced.

Sure does. Especially on top of that Grainfather.....can see I'll have to give some serious consideration to this ;D

Very nice! Looks a lot like one I'm sure I've seen YHB post pictures of, I always wondered what the offset design brought to the party & you just answered it...a better balanced still, very clever

Nice one VT, as said above, nice to see someone doing extra sfuff, always good to see stuff going off in different directions. :)

Robert.

I've done a cleaning run with 10L of vinegar water to test for leaks and all was OK.
I've got some wash ready to run and am going to use the Grainfather with the ALVA to see how the distilling program works.

Not bad at all. is that Braided Silicone hose?

Have you had any issues with those hoses kinking when the water gets warm?

As it's just for cooling water, I use braided fuel pipe and no I've never had it kink so far.

I've just done stripping runs on three 25L Vodka Star washes followed by a spirit run.

It seems this build is better than my old upright design. The spirit was achieving 92% to start with on a low power setting and I stopped collecting hearts when it started to reduce flow and I had to up the power, the rest down to 40% will go into the next spirit run.

This resulted in some very good neutral spirit, which when run through the Essencia has turned out as clean as if I had run it through the Boka.

I can only assume that because of the angle of the 54 mm pipework some of the vapour is cooling and running back causing some form of refluxing.

Pot stilling at 92% is a great achievement, who needs a reflux condenser?!

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the hydrometer almost disappearing down the parrot.
