Black - Column to Condenser fitting

Postby vino-tinto » Thu Nov 21, 2013 2:33 pm

I have the T500 without the top thermometer probe, just the one for the water outlet temp. I would like to take off the top black synthetic section to see how it is fitted with a view to manufacture a copper or SS replacement that will do the same job. I have access to oxy, tig, mig etc so I can pretty much knock up anything.
Has anyone removed it and if so how?, I don't want to do it blind.

Its dead easy. I had the first version, but assuming it is the same.....

1. unpack the column.

2. remove the screws holing the product condenser to the column.

3. unscrew the water\thermo probe housing.

Thats it. the reflux coil \ water output mechanically holds the cap in place, so once you remove the thermo housing, and push it inside, the top just pulls off.

Do I take it from that, that the black synthetic IS the transfer port for vapour from the column to the condenser and not just a cover

Since buying a 500 last week, and doing the first run yesterday I'm now working my way through all of the T500 posts. It's making a lot more sense now that I'm running one.
I've come across this thread of yours VT, so is that plastic what the vapour travels through??? if it is, I thought that was a big NO NO when it comes to having any strong liqueur in contact with plastic?? ???

Did you change it in anyway??
I tried to be normal once, worst two minutes of my life.
