Whisky taste test

LOL!

I have a cottage on a small lake and there are about 40 people or so that live there year round. Well, they get together and do stuff like bbq\'s and such. Quite a few make their own beer and wine so they had a \"taste test\". Well a couple knew I make my own whisky so I said bring over your store bought and we\'ll have a taste test of that too.
Now the majority of the people didn\'t know that what I brought was my own.

Had 8 different types of whisky, I forget all but I remember seagrams 7, canadian club, crown royal, (jim beam or johnny walker, I forget, some american shit) and a few more I forget.
End results were, mine was liked by everybody and picked best by 17 people. The next closest was crown royal at 9 \"best\" picks.

WOOHOO!!!!
Oh, I better say what it was huh? hehe

My regular sourmash wash of 40lb\'s of cracked corn/40lb\'s of sugar/170L water, 25% backset, bread yeast. Then put on medium toasted oak @65% for 3-4 months then cut to 40% on toasted oak for another month or so.
When it was over and I was declared the winner everybody wanted to see what it was. I brought it in three 750ml bottles of gibson\'s finest. So everybody now figures Gibsons is the best stuff to buy! LOL.

Couple buddies who knew winked and said \"way to go\".
YAY ME!
Ok, yes I\'m patting myself on the back....but so what! LOL!
On a side note, (been away from here a while) I found a mason jar of 50% whisky I made 3 Christmases ago and it was sitting on medium oak all the time. HOLY CRAP it was awesome!

Seriously, if you have any way to just make a couple bottles, put oak in them and then forget about them for a couple years...WOW! Obviously time on toasted oak is more important than the type of water/yeast/weather/colour of your socks/etc. The batch it came from was pretty good, but after 3 years it was EXCEPTIONAL!
