Typical recommendations are to use 1/10th as much angelica by weight as juniper and 1/100th as much orris as juniper.

Mine is light on the Angelica then. I was cutting them down when I first started making gin trying to isolate a flavour that I did not like. Turns out it was something entirely different (bitter almond extract for baking).

Excellent! Can you please post a picture of your basket and the recipe? I want to have a go at this too.

Cheers!

Indeed I will. The sputnik will be along a bit later.
Have been dreaming about all the other all the other infusions you could do in vodka.
Peach, strawberry, orange, werthers original, oak and crystal malt. Hmmmmmm

The sputnik has landed.

This is the very first run. I am sure we can develop this recipe, but it is close enough as a first go. I was v happy with product.

Ingredients
• 12 g juniper berries.
• 6 g coriander seeds
• HALF skin of one tangerine. (NEXT time whole skin maybe)
• 1g Angelica
• 1 L 40% neutral (ready to drink)
• 1 L water

Method
Lightly crush the seeds.
Fill still with water & alcohol
Fit basket, then fill with crushed botanicals. Doesn't matter if some dust falls through.
Run Air still for 2.5 hours (or until 0% or until 750ml is reached)
Drink immediately to celebrate !

Notes
Yield. You should get 1 x 75c bottle at 40%
The basket is a small colander/sieve with the handle removed - it is much easier to clean than mesh. The legs are 385mm x 4mm SS threaded bar.

The extra litre of water is to give the still something to work with, stop it boiling dry and give plenty of time for the steaming.

PS The sputnik joke won't work until you make one and then turn it over.

The total cost is about a fiver. If you want any photo's or links shout up.

My Airstill's been gathering dust lately, I was considering selling it, but not anymore :-)

I'm going to give this a try, the wife and I arnt big Gin drinkers, infact it would be fair to say we're not even small gin drinkers, however, due to a shortage of coke and lemonade over Christmas, all we had in was Indian Tonic Water so we started on a bottle of Gordans that until now had out lived all the other spirits on the bar, and liked it so much that another bottle has already been and gone :-)

Time to put the Airstill to some good use and start making some home made, where's the best place to buy the botanicles?

I made some easy gin that lacked a bit of citrus kick - I blame it on the GOP.

So going to try just adding 1 element to an existing gin today.

I think it also depends on the citrus. Sometimes I get way more of an effect from the same amount. Lemon is what I usually use and when you get really fresh ones... wow.
