When you have racked,(siphoned) from the crud at the bottom of the fermenter,at the end of fermentation,your volume will be in the ball park.
Most parts of doing this stuff are very tolerant and not exact.
It is good to use a guide to see you through a first few washes,but it is not a bible,and you are allowed to vary your method.
With this wash it is hard to go wrong,you may not achieve the stated volume of product,but you will be close.
Don't overthink it or stress,we are doing this for fun.
A few distillations and you will wonder why you ever were concerned,and be dreaming up your own washes.

There are a few drawbacks to what seems like a so called Indian Summer,the grass growing out of season is one of them.

We have a small lawn (12'x 8')in front of the cottage....did have until yesterday now covered with weed barrier & blue slat chippings...

The hassle of getting the Flymo out just to cut it was a PIA.

This one is my best effort, cut off better this time before the tails tainted the batch as it did on my last effort.

Think I was trying to scavenge as much as possible but you learn!!

Also run it through charcoal filter for the first time...

Well done John...I did say at the start that it's a steep learning curve, when you collect towards the end of a run, collect smaller cuts....then you can smell/taste and take it from there if you want to keep any.

I finished my last lentil wash a few days ago and decided to really give this one a good degassing. I sat there with an electric drill and degassed it using one of those paint/plaster stirrers. Really hammered this one for about half an hour, going one way and the other, just to make sure it was done.

I've been advised by many on this forum that degassing well is the key to a naturally occuring clear wash without using anything else. The fermenter was moved to the bench outside the house, and this morning it is clear, right down to the bottom.

No doubt the time it takes to clear will get better once the outside temperatures drop.

Nice post, that read as a labour of love, and I am glad it worked for you.
My interest is piqued; And I wonder if I could find the time, to beat time, by doing something similar.
Or at least try.
At least once.
Some of us dinosaurs need a kicking every now and then!

Just came back to a DJ with the last of my lentil TRIAL.

Quite surprised to see it had slightly discoloured. Still perfectly clear but a slight brown hue as is lightly oaked.

Am I missing something?
Oak generally turns my product brown....
I don't even need to toast it first.

Apparently, Mashy was not oaked either. I am slightly curious as to what kind of jar he fit in and who left him in the dark. Inquiring minds want to know!
