Washing Carbon before use
Hello all,
Firstly a quick g\'day as this is my first post on this forum (Heaps of helpfull info by the way).
My query is : When flushing activated carbon before filtering my spirit to get rid of mineral salts etc, How much \" flushing \" is needed ?
Should I keep washing it untill the water runs clear or does this carbon powder help in the filtration process ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, just keep running the water through it until it runs clear, otherwise you\'ll get a batch that has fine black sediment in it and would need to be run through a coffee type filter to get it out....

Cheers Phantom ,
That\'s what I thought. I went ahead and washed it clear and got a crystal clear end product. My first batch too. very happy with the result !!!!!!!!!!!!
Used a 6 kg tripple distilled production pack that Still Spirits do and was surprised at the end result cosidering all the negative comments on turbo\'s out there. Great taste and minimal smell once wash was cleared. It was like clean as water going into my air still. That with the carbon filtering makes for a mighty fine drop.
Luv\'n this forum BTW.
Cheers again,

Well, it depends on what kind of filter it is, but with my Z filter, I follow the advice from Gert Strands ebook about carbon filtering and get to re-use most of it, minimum replacement, saving some money etc....
