I'm delighted we have a buy and sell section even though it could get awkward if commercial sellers end up dominating. It would be great if newbies like myself could find trusted makers.

I am not capable of building a still and never will be.

I picked up a 2nd hand airstill and am delighted with the process and have learned a lot but am a bit disappointed by the quantity produced more so than the quality. I'm limited by being in an apartment.

Compared to a T500, it seems like a copper alembic from Portugal is much cheaper and debatably better?

I've also come across a UK guy on ebay making and selling reflux gear for pressure cookers who has a few videos on youtube and seems legit.

I'm honestly confused as to how best to proceed.

Can you post any links to the Ebay and Youtube??? that way we can take a look and see what this guys kit is like. Hold off on buying anything for the time being.

If your going to upgrade your setup, I would suggest two things

1, get something that can at least hold a full 25lt wash

2, use a 2" copper setup or a T500

That way, you will save lots of time and if you have any problems or need any advice, there will be plenty of people about on here and other forums with experiance who can help.

The problem is people will believe him and buy his still, and be drinking complete shite, then if they're lucky they will find us and learn how to make proper booze.

I've no doubt his still can be used to make some decent spirit, but we all know it's far more complicated than he makes it sound.

He's also quite happy to set fire to some of his alcohol in front of a running still, he a bellend!!

Yeah, I'm not too worried about his methods as I have you guys to keep me right, more in if his equipment is OK

And some of the stuff WE KNOW COLLECTIVELY to be incorrect. For starters Wash strength = product strength.

Agree about the 25L+ recommendation.

I just bought 6 x 30 litre kegs from Kammac and I also have a 33L clamp top fermenter from Brewbuilder.

Now the "fermenter" just happens to be fitted with 2 of 1.5" triclamp ferrules, 1 in the lid and 1 in the side which takes an element. So in my view it is also a boiler.

They are both effectively the same price at just over £65 each. The delivery was a bit more for the 6 kegs, but reasonable. Compare that price to the other boiler options. Either keg or clamp top stainless bin makes a nice boiler.

Brewbuilder gear is 1.5" Triclamp and the kegs are 2" Triclamp but both easily mate up to copper potstill or copper packed columns.

They are a viable alternative option to a T500 in my view.

Now you have me lusting for one of those fermenters.
They look like a bloody good starting point. Have nothing like that down here....

Myles, do you have a trade account with BrewBuilder? the website shows the 33L fermenter @ £97.50 or am I looking at the wrong thing?

My mistake the prices have changed and the website is being updated. They also have introduced a 100 litre version and I think they have 200 and 400 litre equipment coming also.

My keg prices are current though.

That 100 litre clamp top has to be a serious contender as 100 litre kegs are hard to find. Lots of headspace available as a strip boiler for washes that foam up a lot.
