No, it won\'t be, but it\'s got the yeast and some nutrient in it.
You could use a whole pot and it probably won\'t ferment a full batch as quickly as the alcotec 48 will.
It\'s designed as a cheap, generic wine yeast.......

Nah! don\'t bin it.
Experiment with it.... it might be that it\'s a really quick fermenter if it\'s not fighting with other stuff in the bucket! Besides, even if it works but slowly, you\'d still get your moneys worth.
Waste not, want not and all that old shit......
Me? I\'d make up a batch for SS/Alcotech, but before putting the yeast etc in, I\'d measure the gravity, then either make a full, or possibly a scaled down batch to experiment with it.
I\'m guessing that you get such a big pack with SS/Alcotec, so they can give instructions that say stuff like "mix X and Y, and in Z number of days you get A" so there\'s no "lag phase" etc while the yeast is making a strong(er) yeast colony to do the fermenting thing - whereas if you used the Youngs compound and it\'s not enough to get the ferment done quickly, then it\'s gonna just be that it takes a day or so to get the colony grown big enough to do it\'s thing. At worst, you might need check the gravity to see if it\'s finished and if it\'s not, then you might need to add a teaspoon of marmite and boil up a little sachet of bread yeast in water and simmer it for 10 minutes or so - then cool it and chuck it in and stir the batch, (boiled yeast also becomes food for the yeasties that are doing the ferment) that should be enough to get it going.....
Your kit, s\'up to you really dirk.....
