T500 thermometer

Ok so just got back from away and setting up the T500 ready for its fist outing.
maybe a silly question,what is the small pad and the screw for in the thermometer packet ?? not mentioned in the setup guide and nowhere obvious for it to go.

I think it’s a leftover from when there were two thermometers supplied with the T500
