hi iv just got a few question about the 2" ferrules
do they fit the 54mm

and is it thick enough to use a tap and die set on ?

sorry i did it again and didnt explain my self again.

if you look at the first page of this topic there is a post ware the person shows you how to attach a column to a t500 boiler

with a copper column but im just making sure they ware on about using a 54mm column as it's 2" ferrules and dint want to order it and it not fit .m

There are two connectors shown. The one I make with a brass cap, and the one Mr Cat was making with 1.1/2" to 2" stainless adapter.

Both use a 1.1/2" BSPP thread to connect to the T500 lid to match the threaded fitting supplied with the T500.

There is no need to thread anything. The ferrules that Mr Cat is using are for quick release Clover Clamps to allow different heads to be changed easily.

Although it's a 2" BSPP thread it's not 2". It's larger. A 2" BSPP pipe has a diameter of 59mm so a 2" pipe rattles around the inside of the coupler.

Shown in that picture is a 54mm end feed coupler which has a slightly larger outer diameter. It is still too small to tap and screw in but it is close enough to braze. It is pretty big though and is going to sink a lot of heat so it's the last fitting I'm going to braze.

You could cut a 1.5" BSPP thread in it. The internal diameter of that part is 47.6mm and the 'major diameter on a 1.5" BSPP thread is 47.8mm. The thread w0uldn't be that deep in the fitting (only .2mm) but it might be enough to grip the nut on a T500 boiler - which is a 1.5" BSPP thread. They aren't that expensive so it's worth a try - but anyone that can cut that thread into a Stainless steel fitting could also probably tig weld the flange to a a 1.5" BSPP nipple which would be quicker and most likely cheaper.

Just something to think about.

that works Mr Cat.

this riser was just a 1.5 BSPP half socket welded onto 2" pipe with a triclamp at the other end, worked fine with the T500 nut.

Everyone is talking about converting a t500 but do you have to use a controller on it afterwards?

What Im about to say is not and should not be taken as a comment on or even referring to JTM. I have however bought many seemingly very cheap fittings from some UK suppliers . Some have been ok'ish (well useable anyway) many were only fit for the bin, the quality being that bad. Im talking about severe pitting of the copper and the ID of end feed fittings being way out of spec.

If something is too cheap there is generally a good reason why.
