retard needs help with bourbon recipe
hi all. im new and i've 5 sugar washes and am pretty pleased with the results and was wanting to maybe try a bourbon mash since i just received 3 5 L barrels that i would love to have bourbon in. here are my issues.
1 i live in a city and have limited supply to ingredients i read on here (i think) or im sure where to get them. i think we have a beer store somewhere but thats a rumor.
2 what is the absolute easiest recipe for bourbon to practice with ( remember im retarded). THE EASIEST.
3 sometimes the terms used when reading all the recipe formus throws me for a loop.
thanks in advance

Re: retard needs help with bourbon recipe
Hi and Welcome to the forum...... As A fellow newbie at this Brewing Caper.... I've only made 5 washes so myself..... I found the easiest way to make any Spirits ( for awhile anyway ) was to go to my Local Home Brew Shop and Purchase some of the Bourbon Essences that they stock...... Here's the recipie that I use..... it's Not the same as using the chips but at least you'll have quite an acceptable Spirit to Drink ..... until you get more confident to try more complex things Later on thru yr Journey.
Name: Jim Beam No2 Style
Ingredients: Top Shelf Classic American Bourbon 10ml
Mellow Oak 3ml
Still Spirits Glycerine 2.5ml
Method: Mix Classic American Bourbon with 10ml of Mellow Oak Essence 3ml and 2.5 mlStill Spirits Glycerine in 700 ml of base alcohol @ 40%
This makes up 1 700ml Bottle so you can mix and match as you go
Hope this helps

Re: retard needs help with bourbon recipe
Well, I just make the neutral and usually use the SS Tennessee bourbon "classic" flavouring, but also spend time digging around the net for other brands to try.
I suspect you'd need to piss about quite a bit to make a "proper" bourbon type mash, then the extra effort to get the "stilling" right.
So far, none of the commercial flavourings have been bad at all. Not a million miles away from the Brand names etc. All very drinkable to my taste.....
Plus it's about the easiest method you'll find
