Evening all. I have a bit of a puzzler. I have recently bottled up some gin. The bottles are new (I had a rush of blood and lashed out on some polo bottles) and whilst they are sitting here in the back of my workshop I noticed that the corks have started to lift.

My mate Mick had one of the bottles and he left it on the kitchen shelf and the other day the cork popped off and landed on his napper. Luckily no damage was done to the cork and it went back in the bottle. I'm sure I read something on here a while ago about warm temps changing the weight or density or something, not sure. Anyway I can't find the thread on it and I wondered if this is a common thing. I've not really seen it happen before, except with champagne or similar. Any ideas folks?

Blimey. Wine pops Chris if it starts going again in the bottle. Beer is well known to make glass hand Grenades if you get it wrong. But gin..

I know Mash, that's why it's a puzzler. I usually leave about an inch air gap. Would have thought that is sufficient. At this time of the year the average temp in the work shop is about 20oC. Got knows hot hot Micks kitchen is. He is an old git so it might be like a Baghdad brothel. I told him to do like me and keep it in the fridge

I am unsure what is meant by a Polo bottle.
I collect spirit in ex vinegar bottles.
I once made the mistake of screwing the lid down on one.
In the heat of the still room it exploded.
Vinegar bottles are not designed for pressure.

I have always considered bottle banking the same as High street banking - sometimes you put some in - sometimes you take some out. I also make a gadget for getting 'em form the bottom safety.

Careful Mash you dont want to be labelled as a bottom feeder
