5L mini kegs
Who here uses 5 litre mini kegs, and how do you get on with them?.
I have a big birthday bash coming soon, so I invested in a mini keg system as I don't have enough bottles.

I have re-used the bought ones for home brew beer as per http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showt ... hp?t=57568 and find them great to clean and fill compared to the chore of bottling and not so great but not awful in terms of too much head at the top and a holding freshness at the end.

Are you thinking for beer or wine / spirits?
I tried for beer and went back to bottling. It forced me to rethink the process and I made it a bit easier.

Only for beer, I've bought the Brewferm Kit with the CO2 dispenser because I had read, as Curmudgeon has stated, without CO2 they are great to start, but need drinking within a couple of days to stay fresh.

I have some only used them once.
They work well with the gas, but
5ltrs is not much ok for on your
own.
I have found a cheap place for
the co2 bulbs.

the bigger ones are lots of lolly
from the homebrew shops

That's a good price, I've bookmarked it for future use, thanks.

Re: 5L mini kegs
I only drink 2 or 3 beers these nights and then go on to spirits and I'm not really a party person at all. From a 40 pint batch and given that I hate the sterilising in the bath thing, I find 20 grolsch bottles, a few 1.5 or 2 litre coke bottles and one or two 5 litre mini kegs about right. I'd happily go with all 5 litre easy kegs if I drank more beer and less spirits.

Re: 5L mini kegs
I find this a much better way to bottle beer.
It starts from drinking one....
When you are done wash out the bottle.
If needed use TFR. (truckwash)
Tip a shot of neutral in the bottles.
Cork with a simple taper cork.
Store in crates until to have enough for your bottling run.
Remove corks. Tip out spirit (save and rerun)
Sugar each accurately with a zevro.
Fill. Crown cap.
Easy peasy.
No sterilising. No draining
Bottling 23l takes me less than an hour.
Ps. I recycle crown caps too. That makes it a bit easier.

Mash, you are the Mrs. Beaton of the homebrew world, with your labour saving thrifty tips.
That was intended as a compliment, not a knock.
