Yes, I suspect that was one of the reasons that this was started...
Also, yes, for blokes that come over as a bunch of hill billies (yes I also realise the over generalisation).
And of course, because they have pieces of private land, inaccessible by road, incest etc, it means that they can look down their superior noses as those of us who have/like to keep things small and discrete etc...
As I said above, a big generalisation there, yes some will come across as ignorant, incestuous, rednecks etc, there are, some very good, helpfull, knowledgable people there as well.
Not too sure about some of the \"moderation\" on the site though......

I love the subtle way you slipped that one in at the end Phantom! Naughty!
There are some great guys on there, there are also some awful people. I started this site because while some were prepared to help out, others just seemed to want to put people down to make themselves feel superior. Obviously they are free to run their site as they wish and that\'s fine, but I thought there was a need for somewhere else where you could ask an honest question and not be made to feel stupid, it\'s hard enough getting your head around things when you first start and there are ways in which you can hurt or poison yourself doing these things - I\'d rather people were comfortable to ask a \'stupid\' question instead of taking a guess and ending up hurt because they didn\'t want to be ridiculed.
But, playing devils avocado(!) - the site is definitely the best resource out there, and the knowledge in the forums is fantastic. It has been an invaluable resource for me, but socially speaking I like our gang much more!

Just to conclude I would add that I joined your site after going through lots of the threads and without exception you all seemed a down to earth crowd that I could feel comfortable with. That impresion has proven to be spot on. Oh and your pretty well informed as well. Keep it up.

Well I definitely agree with Jimmy there.
I suspect that those over there, who aren\'t as polite/considerate/thoughtful/etc etc are probably those who forget that the differing rules and reg\'s, plus different physical locations, mean that we can\'t all do stuff in exactly the same way (I\'ll bet that it\'s pretty much likely that given the small number of us here, I\'m probably the only one who has never posted here using a windows system \"POWER TO THE PENGUIN\" - that doesn\'t mean that I won\'t talk to or try and assist anyone who happens to be using a Micro$haft system or even app£e users).
My drivel will look and sound the same irrespective. So whether it\'s right, or wrong, it\'s no cost to me to pass it on with a little civility......
Hey ho!

I\'ll have you know this website is \"Made on a Mac\" - although it\'s made by me editing lots of little code files in a text editor (TextWrangler, if anyone cares) so it\'s not quite Steve Jobs vision of the future! The actual Mac it is made on is a G5 XServe which is my desktop machine (Yes, I am ghetto) and sits there making a huge racket from the umpteen fans, but it does have twin CPUs and RAID and a nice chunk of memory. And a whacking great CRT monitor, gotta love proper colour reproduction. I do have a D£LL laptop from work though, although in my defense it runs a beta of Win 7 which is the furthest I could get from standard without stopping all our tools running!
(If you are a normal person, feel free to ignore all of the above paragraph. It\'s not important, or even very interesting!)

Ah, but then again, the most recent incarnations of the Mac OS are based on BSD, probably because of their licence - I rather doubt that the B*****d would have used anything based on any of the GPL\'s otherwise he\'d have had to post/release all the tweaks - and the whole mac world would have just said bollocks to him and downloaded it.......(that\'s in my "soap box" opinion of course...)
And I still feel that Mac are bigger IT nazi\'s than MS, MS just wants to control the worlds software, Mac want to control software and hardware. Another candidate for "the wall" come the revolution.........
p.s. and yes, I\'ll agree with you about the CRT thing, I had to part company with my wonderful 22" Philips, because "herindoors" complained it took up too much room - but it was still faultless!

Gee, tell us how you really feel. (Am I considered redneck if I\'m in Canada?) LOL!
I like both sites, but there is definately different mantalities on each. Not right or wrong or better/worse just different. I personally think the air distiller is a piece of crap and would never recommend one. On the other hand, as was said, not everybody has the ability/space/etc to run a 50+L still. You gotta do what you can.
Since it is so much easier to get cuts correct (among other things) when going big and the other site is full of people who have the room to run big, it only makes sense that they \"look down their nose\" at small set ups. (like I do I guess) The same as living in an apartment all your life and generally being \"packed tighter\" makes you used to doing things on a very conservative level. Not wrong just different.
I\'m bought a 121L hdpe garbage can to ferment in because running a bunch of little 30L pails is a pain in the butt. I get 20L from a pail and need 40-50L to fill the still enough to make it worth while to fire up. If I do all different recipes then have to mix two or more to run a batch off, what\'s the point of different recipes?
Anyway, you can\'t deny the wealth of info over there (which no one has) you just got to have thicker skin I guess.
Oh, and the incest comment wasn\'t called for.

Am I considered redneck if I\'m in Canada?
Doesn\'t that make you a hoser or something? LOL just kidding, call it a limey sense of humour for a bit of insult parity!
Like I said, the site has a wealth of great information and good people, as well as a fair few who some would consider not so helpful. If it was perfect, then there would be no need for this forum, but as it is there is room for everyone. Let\'s just all be polite and respectful of the choices people make, and save the arguments for really important things like football or operating system choices!
