After day 4 on the bubble the airlock went silent. It's now day 6 and just checked the SG - it's down to 0.09. All good to go in just 7 days. Same as last time. It really does do what Ted said on the label.

Kale added to the shopping list today. Wash will be on tomorrow morning.
Really looking forward to seeing how this compares to the wheat wash.

Re: Teddy's Fast Fermenting Vodka
Here come da weekend ! One of the many advantages of living in this half of the planet is that Saturday comes around sooner.
The gardener had plans to go horse riding with her sister and I had plans to hit the garage for a 48 hour still-a-thon.
Was going to go horse riding apparently. I should be able to do a couple of strip runs and put down another FFV if I manage a couple of early starts but squeezing in the vodka run as well might be pushing things

As my dear brother Des put it .."If a man was all alone in a forest, would he still be wrong? "

I came across this, this week...

Just had a wee dram of the FFV. Very very tasty. It's got character. A very slight sweetness in the aftertaste and a nice mouth feel. I think it would oak up nicely. I've never drunk distilled kale wash but I have tried TPW. FFV actually tastes of something you'd want to keep and work with.

Re: Teddy's Fast Fermenting Vodka
A reminder why its worth sticking to Teddysads sugar ratios for this recipe.
I make a 50 litre wash. Following Teds ratio that should be 8.7 kg of sugar.
I decided to round that up to 9kg.
It will turn out just fine but instead of being done in 4 days and ready to still in a week it is still bubbling away 6 days later. This won't be ready to still till next weekend. I could have done 2 slightly lower ABV washes in the same time.
As TS said elsewhere. What you gain in slightly higher ABV you loose in the longer turn around. There are people who will miss out on Vodka for Christmas because of that terrible mistake.

Well said Mr FS.
Yes the lighter sugar quantity is the key to good flavour and, more importantly, speed!

You can lead a horse to drink but you can't make it water

Yeah, you got it MR F S.
We all learn the sugar/alcohol to time ratio.
Quality pokes it's head in too.
But it is all fun.
Robert.

Re: Teddy's Fast Fermenting Vodka
Well this looked to good to miss, so I've got a wash on the go now. I have to say that it felt a little weird slinging boiled bran into the bucket when I'm used to wheat grains, and it all looked more than a little gloopy when I pitched the yeast.
That having been said, it's now bubbling like mad, so we shall see what we shall see in a few days time!
Cheers
Hampk
