What to do with heads?
Thanks to the information on this site (I think) I've successfully got through my first stripping and spirit runs. Started with a 2 x kale wash (25L water, 5kg sugar, tub Allinsons and juice from 100g of kale) which hit 10% after 2 weeks @ 28C.
Using the diagram from Mash as a starter for ten, I've ended up with 4L of hearts @ 64% which I've diluted back to 45% (which seems pretty smooth to my taste) ready for gin runs through the sputnik. As this was the first attempt I've definitely erred on the side of caution - 4L for the cost of sugar, kale and yeast is fine.
During the distillation I've collected 1L plus of heads at 80+%. The notes on the diagram suggest that heads can be retained for a separate run - does this just means diluting back to something like 30% and running back through and discard the 'nasties' using taste and smell?

Yes, you have it, save until you have enough to warrant a run.
I would then discard anything not considered worth drinking.
Robert.

When Robert said discard, I think he meant discard from drinking projects.
Heads/tails/mistakes all have another use. BBQ lighter, cleaning spray, surface cleaner, bottle soak, stain remover etc etc.
Never tip it down the sink.

I did indeed mean what Mash said.
Don't drink it.
Be creative with it, don't waste it.
Robert.

Thanks for the reminders - the wife has already grabbed foreshots. So far the only stuff that's gone down the sink is what's left over in the still at the end of a run.

When someone finds a use for that, please share.

That's OK from a strip.
I have tried using spirit run waste as weedkiller.
Pretty good when hot.
As is water!

Is the aim here that the insecticide will deliver vegies already pickled....

I seldom take myself seriously....

Not sure it works on greenfly. Works very well on ants. Straight out the boiler, single treatment.
