essencia brass plated copper packing..
Hi all,
This is what the hb shop guy sold me. I asked for copper scrubbers. Now on appearance i knew they was not pure copper as they were not orange enough.
Are these ok to use really?
Ive tried them loose in the column on a stripping run and i had greeny coloured distillate. Also when i pulled them out the column it looked like some of the brass plating had been attacked and revealed copper!
Heres the ebay link of what i brought. It was in a proper essencia box over the shop counter.
Any thoughts please ?. Should i try them on a spirit run. They were dirty after the stripping run and funky colours..
Why are they brass coated if only copper and ss should be used.
They smell really metalicy if you know what im saying..

Thanks guys
Rich

Re: essencia brass plated copper packing..
You have lots of copper in your column to take care of the sulphides.
So I think that in your position and until you can find out for certain what you have bought, I would be tempted to stay with stainless scrubbers - they are cheap enough and I have had good results with them, in a system very similar to yours.

Thanks Brian...
I agree and will go the way of ss scrubbers. It did say on the advert not to use ss in a copper column as it affects heat distribution?. I guess this is just an iffy sales ploy to be honest. My stripping runs with no packing are fine.
Ss it is.
Thanks
Rich

I have used those scrubbers for a couple of years and they produce an extra 2% abv compared to using stainless scrubbers ,as regards safety i think essencia would not be allowed to sell them if they were not fit for the purpose

thanks for reply Billmcc...
im a bit more reassured knowing someone else has noticed them...
Im interested as to why they are brass plated though?..
I thought SS or Copper was the only known safe metals ?
why not pure copper.
Im going to try a small spirit run with them i think..
thanks
